Easy, Fun Ideas for the Perfect Valentine’s Day Classroom Party
By: Sue Kirchner of ChocolateCakeMoments.com
I always love the Valentine’s Day parties at my kids’ elementary school. However, a Valentine’s Day class party is tough because it can’t be all hearts and mushy love themes. You need to come up with games and activities that boys will like too. Here are some ideas that will make you the coolest Room Mom in town.
I love edible markers! There are so many cool things you can do with them. Why not let the kids decorate a Valentine’s Day marshmallow. They can give it to a friend or their parents, if they can stop eating their hard work themselves. I used these marshmallows as a topper on a Valentine’s Day Chocolate Mousse recipe my daughter and I made last year. You can see some of the possibilities for marshmallow art. You can buy edible markers at craft stores or online at http://www.foodoodler.com/.
Valentine’s Day Photo Booth
Photo booths are so hot at parties now. You can have so much fun taking pictures of kids wearing goofy hats or holding funny signs. Hang some red plastic table covers against the wall for a red backdrop. Then, go to the Dollar Store and see if you can find red or pink hats, goofy heart shaped sunglasses, or even red and pink feather boas. Black top hats, sinister evil mustaches, and even red bandanas can be fun accessories for boys to use. Take funny pictures of the kids with their props to hang in the classroom or take home as gifts for Mom. Momitforward.com has some funny photo props you can download and print out for a Valentine’s Day party.
Secret Message Valentines
Have the kids make secret message Valentine’s Day card for each other or for their parents. Cut a heart shape out of white construction paper. Then write a secret message on the heart with white crayon. The recipient needs to paint the heart with watercolor paint to unearth the secret Valentine’s Day message. Check out the instructions from Better Homes and Garden.
Last year, my kids and I create a super easy but really cute Valentine’s Day gift for the Grandparents. We bought heart foam shapes as the base of our Valentine’s Day Photo Decoration but you can cut them yourself out of red foam sheets. Make sure there is a hole punched through at the top. You can then glue on heart lace shapes, foam shapes, photos of the kids, or any other decoration you can think of to make a cute wall hanging gift. Click here for the complete instructions.
Valentine’s Day Mad Libs
Here’s a game that will get the kids rolling on the floor laughing. Try playing a Valentine’s Day themed Mad Libs Game. You can download a very funny version here from the Sisters Suitcase blog.
Have a wonderful party!
