Passing the Baton

Helping Prepare Next Year’s Class Leaders

As a room parent, crew or homeroom parent, you have spent countless hours organizing parent volunteers in the classroom – KUDOS! As the school year comes to an end, it is time to think about passing the baton as your own child will move on to a new grade and new class. It’s easy to take your VolunteerSpot activities and set them up for next year, even if you do not yet know next year’s room parent. Here’s how:

Slate School Tablet1. Transfer your activities to your teacher’s VolunteerSpot account. If your teacher retains the activity data and schedules – from parent teacher conferences and class parties, to math station volunteers and recess helpers – they will easily be able to hand it over to next year’s room parent. See:

3.  Share your best tips and ideas for organizing classroom volunteers – whether it is a quick list for next year’s room parent or a brief letter, drop some words of wisdom and lessons you learned in your experience-rich year that could benefit the next class leader (and continue to help your teacher).
